Our Relationship’s

I often say to my close ones: “When my relationship with Christ is right, then my relationship with everyone (all) will be right.” 

I know how important my relationship with God is and how it plays a major role in my life on this earth.  Any relationship you take in this world starts with trust. Likewise, when we have faith in Jesus, we are saved. 

The ultimate gospel verse in the Bible is: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 

Our relationship with God starts by believing in Him. What are we believing? That Jesus Christ is the Son of Man who came into this world, who was sentenced to death on our behalf, was crucified, and arose on the third day. Through Him, we have been reconciled to the Father, since the Bible tells us in Colossians 1:21 “And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled”. Praise God for that! 

This relationship is purely because of God’s grace and love. Ephesians 2:4-5 NIV says: “4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.” Another verse in Scripture from Romans 5:8 NLT says, “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” Then, we need to admit that there’s absolutely nothing we can do to save ourselves or to contribute to our salvation. On the basis of Christ’s sacrifice, God forgives our sins by grace, that is, by an undeserved blessing. “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8–9). The Lord Jesus has already done all the work (John 19:30), and He did it perfectly! Salvation is not about what we can do but about what Christ has done. 

When we start to believe this and confess it in our daily lives, our foundation in Christ becomes stronger than ever. 

So, we learned that our relationship with God starts:
1. By believing in Jesus, in other words, faith.
2. It is purely because of God’s grace and love. 

So, what does this do to the other relationships on this earth? 

There are many, but for today’s meditation, I want to share four, or rather five, things. I’ll talk about the most important thing last, which doesn’t mean it is the fifth one. The other four lie within the fifth, which is actually the first. Are you getting confused by my words? Let me unpack it for you, my friends. 

First, when your relationship with God / Christ is right, you will be a loyal person.

You will be loyal to your parents, spouse, kids, family, society, and in your workplace, which strengthens your relationships. Since Jesus is loyal to the Father, and you are being conformed to His image, you too will be a loyal person. 

Secondly, obedience.

You will be an obedient person, just like Jesus. We read in Philippians 2:8, “And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” We know that through disobedience, our relationship with God was broken, and through the obedience of Christ, our relationship was restored. Read Romans 5:19. We will also be obedient in our relationships according to the will of God. 

Thirdly, a victorious life.

Now, you might have a question: how does this help in our relationships? Dear brothers and sisters, we face multiple battles in our lives. We should encourage each other, hold one another in prayer through intercession, care for each other, and share with one another. In the invisible world, you are defeating Satan and his plans to break your relationships. The victorious life is through the Lord, as we read in Deuteronomy 20:4 NIV: “For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.” Proverbs 21:31 says, “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord.” 

Fourthly, endurance.

Imagine if God had not endured when you continually made mistakes—you would have been punished. But God, being merciful, endured your sinful nature, showed mercy, and delivered you. Likewise, you will be a person who endures in your relationships, especially with your kids and spouse. Matthew 24:13 KJV says, “But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” Not only that, endurance produces character. Read Romans 5:4 ESV. 

Did anyone guess the fifth one, which is the most important and, rather, the first one? If you haven’t, let me give you a clue. Take the first letter of the four points I shared and form a word. L O V E Ahhhh!

Yes, it’s LOVE. 

We read, “God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” Romans 5:5 ESV. My dear friends in Christ, LOVE has been poured into our hearts, and this is the most important aspect of relationships. Every relationship is broken because of a lack of love, and that love can only be given by Jesus. 

I hope you understand why I say, “When my relationship with Christ is right, then my relationship with everyone (all) will be right.” 

Today, check how your relationship with Christ is. Do you have faith in Jesus, or is your faith like paper floating in the air or like beating the air with a rod? Do you know that your salvation is by grace alone? You are still alive and reconciled only because of the great love and mercy God has shown you. 

If you are lacking, don’t worry, dear friends. Confess openly to the Lord that you have failed to believe, and ask God to give you faith. Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith, He will provide it. I pray that God may restore your relationship with Christ first, and that every other relationship will fall into its rightful place.
